Tioga County Public Health Participating in Drug Take Back Day on October 25

Last Updated: 10/15/2025

Tioga County Public Health in partnership with the Tioga County Advocacy, Support, And Prevention (ASAP) Coalition and Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)  National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25, 2025. This event allows Tioga County residents to conveniently and safely dispose of any unused, unwanted, or expired medications.

This event is being held at:

Health and Human Services Building

1062 State Route 38, Owego, NY 13827

10:00am – 2:00pm

* This is a drive thru event - Please remain in your vehicle while we assist in collecting your medications and sharps.

During the event, we will be collecting:

Over-the-counter and prescription:

  • Medication tablets
  • Capsules
  • Patches
  • Other solid forms of prescription drugs
  • We cannot accept any liquid medications

Sharps, syringes, needles, and lancets:

  • Must be in a sealed sharps container or hard plastic container (milk jug, laundry detergent bottle, etc.)
  • We cannot accept any “loose” sharps

It is important to safely dispose of unused and expired medications (prescriptions and over-the-counter) to prevent medications from getting into the wrong hands! Keeping unneeded medications in the home can pose a risk of accidental consumption (specifically by children and pets), and they can be consumed and potentially abused by others, increasing the risk for substance use disorder. Keep your home safe by properly disposing your medications that are no longer needed!
